Rebus Mural
New York City 2011
Having one of my drawings from the series Rébus on a wall in Manhattan is a true source of joy. Overall Murals, who created it, contacted me to ask if I would be willing to collaborate on this project. I originally created this series of drawings in 2011 for an art festival in France called Nuit Blanche, which takes place across many cities. The drawings were first printed as posters and displayed throughout the city of Mayenne. Since then, the drawings have traveled from Mayenne to the streets of Saint Petersburg, appeared on pins in Tokyo, been featured in a TV show in Canada, and now exist here in Nolita as a mural. In my opinion, this is the best way for an artwork to live: leaving the studio, traveling on its own, becoming part of the outside world, and being embraced and reinterpreted by others. Many thanks to everyone involved—especially the team at Overall Murals—who made this possible.
