Hourglass
reflexion on time

Time does not wait for us. It is the time of life passing, the time of the planet and of the climate as well. Climate change is a new kind of clock. Storms, droughts, torrential rains, the extinction of living beings — all of it brings us closer to a door unknown to humankind. Time is also an era, that of ‘solastalgia’, a new marker of a thoroughly contemporary state of mind. Time is also the time spent patiently drawing my fears and my hopes.

Hoursglass is a series of three abstract digital drawings. The concept is inspired by time gone by — a countdown, that of climate change and its irreversible tipping point. The three symmetrical shapes in the drawings resemble doors opening onto dark matter. Interdimensional gates reveal a shadowy unknown — an invitation to the void. The patterns are entirely hand-drawn using a digital pen. This painstaking, time-consuming technique echoes the very notion of time slipping away. Their textures are inspired by materials in a state of deliquescence. Particles float, scatter, and dissolve — like dust, microplastic fragments, clouds. Something both mineral and organic at once, whose movement pulls us toward an unfamiliar territory.
