Balance of Power
Obama Presidential Center Museum

Balance of Power is a triptych of large-scale prints (300 × 460 cm each) commissioned by the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago. Composed of hundreds of thousands of carefully hand-placed dots, each panel depicts a symbol of American power. The prints are located on the third floor of the museum, within the Civics Gallery—an educational space that invites visitors to learn about and reflect on American democracy through the central question: How can we build a stronger democracy in the United States?
The three American symbols featured in the triptych correspond to the three branches of government in the United States: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The choice of these three symbols also highlights the relationship between power and art. Each symbol represents a different artistic discipline: sculpture (the Statue of Liberty), graphic design (the American flag), and architecture (the Capitol). Together, they suggest that art plays an essential role in shaping and expressing every form of power.
